Dumplings are so easy to make.
As a child, this was one of my favourite things to eat. We had them in stews and soups. The delicious fluffiness floating in a thick sauce. Or a white cloud sitting in a dish dribbled with cream and golden syrup.
Dumplings are so cheap and simple to make. Made with self rising flour, suet (beef or vegetarian) and water. Half the weight of fat to flour. Water to bind to a moist stickiness. I spoon the mixture straight into the stew or soup. My mother would roll them into balls with floured hands.
The ones for pudding can be steamed on an oven proof plate over something else that is cooking or cooked in the microwave for a few minutes.
A wonderful winter warming food.
