Times are hard and the winter months will be harder as winter fuel bills rise and the cost of essentials like food rise in price too.
There is free food to be found out in the countywide, which can be harvested and stored. It’s the countryside that our ancestors turned when times were difficult before.
One crop which is currently in abundance is blackberries. These can be eaten raw, frozen for later use or cooked as a pudding or made into jam or preserved in syrup.
This morning I picked a crop and made an enormous oatie crust. This we had with family today, served with whipped double and ice cream. The reminder will be frozen in portions for later use.
